Major road disruptions headed for Chester this autumn
Those taking driving lessons around Chester city centre should be warned of potential disruptions in the weeks to come as essential roadworks are scheduled.
The crucial work is part of the Northgate Development project and businesses and residents in the area set to be affected have been notified by Cheshire West and Chester Council of initial site investigations. This work is already taking place on Castle Drive and involves unearthing to create “trial pits”.
The pits will confirm where water, electricity, telecoms and gas are situated, as well as test ground conditions for new infrastructure work,s which includes the future Northgate Development.
Minor disruption is expected to be caused by closure between Grosvenor Road and Roodee Car Park on Castle Drive. There will be further interruption to motorist’s journeys over the next few days (from October 23 to 28) when a lane closure will take place on Grosvenor Road in front of the council offices in the HQ Building to assist the work on Nuns Road.
The most serious disruption will affect drivers from November 4 to November 24, when the roadworks will relocate to the dual carriageway at St Martin’s Way and Nicholas Street. The local authority has stated the vital work will be undertaken in stages with only one directional lane facing closure at a time.
All roadworks will be performed from 6:30am to 7:30pm including weekends, expect for the November 2 to 3 weekend when they will halt for the Chester Racecourse fireworks display.
